M17X unusual keyboard lighting problem

Thread Starter

I ordered an M17x which had Windows Vista on it. The laptop lighting system worked great. When windows 7 came out I formatted and installed Windows 7 instead of Vista. When I did the format my laptop keyboard was green with a purple alienware head. Now that Windows 7 is installed, every single time I restart the computer it goes back to the green and purple head instead of staying with the new themes I create. Also, the alien head will not change off purple, the only thing that will change is the keyboard.

But like I said, even then, when I restart the computer it goes back to green. It is so annoying. I tried the registry fix. It seems like that is more geared toward a keyboard that won't light up at all. Mine lights up fine. It's just the alien head won't change color and the keyboard always reverts back to what I had it on when it was installed with Vista. Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking something within the BIOS or registry that is remembering the Vista settings but I have no idea where to start.

Thanks!

have you tried downloading the lastest command center and OSD applications from Dells Site

Also download and install the Chipset drivers from Dells site as well.

I have the most up to date version of command center from the site and OSD applications. As far as chipset drivers go, are you referring to the graphics or the processor? I know my graphics have the most up to date drivers. I'm not sure about the processor. I'll look into it.

make sure you have the lastest OSD and Command Center drivers,

uninstall them and re-install them again.

The drivers should be installed in the following order.

1. Chipset Driver
2. Intel RST Driver
3. Freefall Sensor Driver
4. Alienware On-Screen Display Driver
5. INTEL/AMD/NVIDIA Display Driver.

6. LAN Driver
7. Wireless Network Driver
8. Audio Driver
9. Bluetooth Driver
10. Touchpad Driver
11. Media Card Reader Driver
12. Remote Control/Infrared Driver
14. Alienware Command Center NOTE: Command Center should always be installed last.
