Shut down. Please help!

Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite. I've had it since 2001. I've already had to send it in for this problem once, but it was under warranty, now I have to pay for it, so I'm asking help somewhere else. It keeps shutting down out of no where. The fan speeds up for a short time and then it just goes off. When it does this I can't turn it back on for about half an hour. Does anyone know what the problem is? Help is much appreciated. I will also post this in General Discussion, because I believe I may get some more responses there.

Shut down also

I also had a Toshiba Satllite that was bought in 2001. Mine was sent in twice for a shut down problem. You would turn the system on and then all of the sudden it it would shut down. After a few shut downs, it would not come on at all. The green power light would come on and the fan would come on and sound strange but the computer would not come on for approximately a half of an hour. The warranty company "fixed it" once and sent it back. After running it for 45 minutes, it did the same thing. We sent it back and they supposedly fixed it again. However it was stolen during shipment and we don't know if they fixed it the second time. If anyone knows what that problem was, please let me know for curiosity sake (and for future purchasing). Thanks.
