MAJOR ISSUE Acer Aspire 6920G

Thread Starter

Hi,

My Acer Aspire 6920G has been working perfectly for the past 2 and a half years - this morning I turn it on and it can't get past the first loading screen. It gets to the small green loading bar and continues to load, presumably until the end of time if I left it.

I have run StartUp Repair at least 20 times already. Each time I encounter the same problem. I fear I will have to Alt+F10 and wipe all of my files. Is there anything I can do?

Please help!

Does it boot up directly from an installation CD with no issue? Tried safe mode?

cheers ...

I haven't tried an installation CD yet, and it doesn't give me the option to run it in safe mode, just to run it normally or do Startup Repair.

Constantly press F8 when the system boots. See if you can get into safe mode

Thanks Steve, using F8 got me to a better menu. I tried Safe Mode, but after listing a bunch of files, freezing for a little while and restarting, I hit the same problem. It just can't get past that loading screen! Also, I tried a system restore, but apparently I have to restore points from which to restore from :(

Try swapping out the ram modules, one at a time if you have 2 and see

give it some time to boot up. Safe mode can take a few min.

Thanks for your help guys, but I've tried almost everything on the menu that appeared after pressing F8 now, and I still get the same problem.

Now, how exactly do I go about swapping the RAM modules? I'm not exactly a wizard when it gets to hardware.

Thanks again for the help.

You can follow this video to show how to get to the memory. At 2:25 you can see the two RAM dimms. Swap their positions, then reassembled and boot. (Or boot with only 1 memory module in at one time - try booting with one of the memory modules - retry with the other module )

sounds like a bad hard drive.

I agree with MichelleG

this is a classic hard drive issue
