Buying a m17x

I am about to buy a m17x for my nephew to go to college with. He wants it to play high powered games, watch dvd's and blu ray, school work and some music editing. I was thinking of the m17x with the info below. I dont know much about this stuff but can someone tell me if they think any of this of overkill or i should upgrade one of these options?

Dell just introduced the new m14x and m18x, and a refresh of its m11x - you might want to look into it first.

It looks like a good configuration.

I would highly recommend the 3 year warranty.
