Hello! It's been about 3 years since I've stopped by here, and thanks to the benchmarks/reviews/etc I ended up getting a tricked out Dell XPS m1730. I've done some glancing around in the different forums but haven't been able to find actual benchmark data to assess what's top of the line in 2011 vs 2008, and nothing really posted recently discussing what's hot. Has the state of the laptop union changed much since 2008? What's currently the bleeding edge for laptops at the moment, and is that slated to change by the summer?

Thanks for the words on the benchmarks, Shaun.
With respect to the other question, what's top of the market just now? As best as I can tell, the Dell m1730 and Alienware m17x are still actually close to the top as they've just had refreshes under the hood but same laptop body. I'm looking for customizable internal configs where money and portability are not necessarily a concern but a simple looking laptop body would be nice to have (function over form definitely).
