Parallel Audio Systems

I have a blind friend who presents a popular Internet radio show. He is going to the USA in a few months and I am trying to set him up with a notebook that he can use to present his show while away from home. My problem is that his machine must have two parallel audio systems - one for the normal audio functions and a separate one that his screen reader software can use.

This is no problem in a desktop - just slot in another audio card - but I have no idea how to do it with a notebook.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

This is a very unique question that I do not have any experience with. I know that there are external sound cards that can be plugged in via USB. Is that an option?

Thanks for the reply Steve. I have looked at a couple of el-cheapo USB systems but they either add extra functionality to the existing audio system or replace the existing system altogether. I haven't found one that gives me a parallel system.
