Lifebook E8120: Replacement for Seagate Momentus needed

Hi guys.

The harddisk in my lifebook is broken. It's a Seagate Momentus 5400 with 80 GB, model ST98823AS. I was searching for the same disk on ebay but with no success. Does anyone know which harddisks can be used instead?

Thanks.

If you want to be on the safe side any SATA 1.5Bb/s drive would do, regardless of brand

Well, being honest, a little pimpin' wouldn't be bad. smile.gif So let me change my question to: What would be the best harddisk to use?

Cheers!

smile.gif Go to Amazon, plug in "80gb sata 1.5gb/s drive"

like this one per example

I prefer WD myself regarding SATA drives. Being lucky with them so far.

Hi qhn,

Thanks for your help so far. I am know thinking of applying a SSD disk. What do you think about that idea? Are they compatible with the notebook controller or do these disks pretend there were “normal“ ones?

Hi again,

I bought a 60GB Vertex II SSD and I am currently installing Win7. I am really curious if Win7 contains all the drivers for my notebooks components!

Regards.

Hmmmm, Win7 did not work. Even the vista versions of the drivers were not recognized. Sad!

Now it's time for XP again......

I would first at least install Windows 7 all the way, then go onto the net to pick up its updates - this is the important step where Windows 7 would search the corresponding drivers for your system

Hi. I installed Win7 again because I was told that older win versions could mess up the SSD quickly by writing into the same ram areas rather than distributing.

After that I visited the Intel page and used their component detector to install the chipset drivers. Everything apart from the graphics was set up fine afterwards. Well, and after a visit at ATI.com all sorted out.

Cheers (I am currently enjoying a cold beer in the sun)

Hehe, don't worry, I will not spill one single drop....... smile.gif

I am missing the hotkey handling in Win7, especially for volume and brightness. Any idea how to enable them?

Install the app in compatible mode?

Hm. I was wondering if Win7 really knows that a SSD is connected. I mean so that the memory cells are written equally. Does anyone know if the component manager shows some info about this.

Cheers
