Dead 8886

Hello

OKay serious problem. While setting up a show, my sager was plugged in up-side down. That is, the power adapter was plugged in with the flat side up. The computer will not start, it does not display any power lights while plugged in, and there is a blackened pin in the adapter plug.
Please tell me the transformer isn't blown. Please tell me I can fix this. Why is it even possible to plug it in this way?!?! AND WHY doesn't Sager's Tech support number WORK?!
This is extremely upsetting - any suggestions PCTorque?

=( I didn't realize it was even possible to plug it in upside down. Hopefully it just fried the AC adapter. If the green LED on the power adapter isn't lit up, that may be the only problem and you can et the RMA from Sager.

No, the power adapter is fine. Here's what I'm worried about

There are 4 pins in the transformer. If you look at it flat side down, the lower left pin is black. I'm wondering if the neutral was lifted when it was plugged upside down, or if it crossed a live and a ground. I believe in either case it would blow the next thing along the chain, probably some sort of capacitor or transformer to regulate the power into the battery. Maybe it's just the battery. But right now it's a lifeless dead laptop. I'm going to cry

How the hell did this happen? I can't even do this if I tried! I am not certain about the 8886, but my 8887 has a FLAT portion of the rounded connector that must align with the flat portion of the laptop chasis.

I suppose if one was REALLY REALLY forceful and trying to break something this could occur...

Were you using the stock AC adapter? Is the 8886's power connector a complete round (no flat portion)?

Well, I hope you can get it taken care of soon...

I believe the adapters are the same.

The plug did not go all the way into the connector, but the pins did make contact and short.

Funny thing is, I got it working about an hour afterwords, but it shut itself off soon after, and then . . . nothing! again! no power lights, no response from power button. This leads me to believe it's something to do with the power board from the battery to the laptop. . .

Well I talked to Sager about it and it looks like it's going back to be fixed. The hard drive should be okay but still . . . what a bitch.

I have so much work to do in the next 2 weeks that requires a laptop!! It's 7 days to ship this thing from Montreal to Cali. What a freakin mess!
