I have an old Z7100 that has been dead for about 3 years with a broken video card. After searching for a while, it seems that finding a replacement video card is unlikely at this point (anyone out there selling one?). I'm wondering now... is there a way to get it fixed (maybe an external video card or something) or should I just dump the laptop? Thanks in advance for your help.
Video card for old Asus Z7100
You can also try baking the video card in an oven for a few minutes to melt and re-flow the solder for connections, like what some people have done for the faulty Nvidia 8000M series cards, but there's no guarantee that will work.
Thanks for the suggestion, Djembe! I did the baking this weekend and it partially worked! The computer now boots and I can use the laptop with an external display, but the built-in display is useless (the image is there, but it's very very dark, almost invisible). Should I try baking again, maybe at higher temperatures? Or what I am seeing now is a problem with the laptop's display? Thanks again!
