A disk read error has occured

I recently bought an Acer Aspire AS5742-7789, Notebook - Intel Core i3-370M, 15.6" HD, 4GB RAM,

320GB HDD, Intel HD Graphics, DVD-RW, Wireless N, Gb LAN, Webcam,

Window 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Here lies the problem: I get a "A Disk Read Error Has Occured, Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart" error. So, In the boot menue I placed the dvd drive in the first boot option and started on the Win7 Repair disk. when it finally (it took a loooong time)poped up ,with repair options, I chose "fix problems starting windows" after searching for about 40 min. It could not find the O/S to repair. So I opted out for restoring the computer with a saved image(I had an Image file stored on an external) It recognised the external and the other image files I have on there for my other PCs. The NoteBook Image file was there but it did not recognise it as the image backup for that laptop?????

All of this took an incredibly long time to do. Most of the afternoon in fact. Finaly I put in a win7 64bit disk and asked it to reinstall Win7 new. It loaded the files, asked what key board type(US) and Setup is Starting went on it's merry way....................................forever. The busy icon just kept rolling for the REST of the afternoon :-P

So, No system restore, no sys repair, no loading of system Image files and no reload O/S. ?????crybaby.gif

If anyone can give me some Idea of what I'm up against, it would be most appreciated smile.gif

Any idea what brought the problem on for you having to restore/reinstall....Did you have any part of it apart...ie: memory not seated correctly, HDD not seated properly

You may have hit the nail on the head homie(Waverley, NS)  cool2.gif

It seems a telephone book was dropped on itazz.gif and I am just hearing about it now. This would account for possible unseating of components? No exterior damage. Only three weeks old, I guess I'll try the manufactures warranty.?

These symptoms point at this fault I am assuming. Many thanks. bow.gif
