I e-mailed Hypersonic-PC with a question, and the guy who e-mailed me back said that a new, improved Centrino-based laptop will be released in two weeks.

He didn't say what the "improvements" would be, though.

I wonder if the CX6's price would go down slightly as a result? And I wonder what will be different about the new model.

It won't be out in two weeks. Hypersonic was supposed to release the AX7 in May (an updated version of the AX6 with the M11) Unfortunately, the laptop still ain't on their site.

i would doubt the CX6s prices go up just you would have to pay a lot to get the chip put in. seeing as how the CX6 is ready for the dothan already and all they have to do is put in the chip same as the older banias chips

I'm also interested in the CX6, if anyone can PM me or respond with more info on this model vs. eMachine, etc. - much appreciate it! Also, when will Hypersonic's Pentium-M processor price drop because of Dothan?

one more question:

which is more important for the multitasking i want to do?
harddrive speed, memory, or processor speed?

what is the minimum of each i should make sure to get?
(60 gb 7200 rpm, 512 mb, 1.7 mhz)??

Thanks again!

if you're going to be keeping a lot of programs running at the same time, memory is very important. 1GB of memory should be the minimum. IF you're accessing lots of files from the hard drive then get 7200rpm. A processor is also very important for multi-tasking. If you have the money, get the 7200rpm drive and the 1.7GHz because every little bit helps.
Crellion: Hypersonic takes things very slowly. I believe the Pentium M's have had a slight price deduction. THe CX6 is a much better performer than emachines becasue it has 9700 128mb video card where emachines has 9600 64mb. with the M11, rest assured you can play any game on the market. Also, the emachines only comes with 4200rpm drive while the minumum hdd speed for CX6 is 5400rpm.

tourney -- thanks so much for your help! so i gather that a combo of those things are important in order for multitasking to run smoothly? if i had to sacrifice memory or processor (1025 mb with 1.6 ghz or 1.7/1.8 ghz with 512 mb), which should i sacrifice first? i have to do this in order to keep within a price range. thanks again!

id say go with the 1.6 and bigger memory. but thats just me as the performance difference between say a 1.8 and 1.7 is very insignifact compared to the difference between 512mb and 1024mb of memory.

azstinger -- how much longer is the cx6 wait? it must be killing you!

i did not know the difference between 512mb and 1024mb was quite significant. good to know -- thanks.

Memory is a great boost to performance. An upgrade from 256mb to 512mb can show up to a 30% increase in system performance.

That pretty much depends on what you are running (OS) and what you are using the PC for. For XP it definetely holds true, as XP itself takes up about 128mb

the wait is killing me as at the latest it should ship monday, though im gonna call tomorrow and see if it might be coming sooner.

Hi,

I have similar situation like Kangazoom where I want to buy a laptop that I can use for my school and for movie editing/burning as i have a digital camcorder. So i want to know if anyone ever use the emachine m6805 or m6809 for movie editing and burning to DVD before. Any info would be appreciated to help me buy this laptop.
