Just curious about the following:
I have a Motorola Surfboard SBG900 wireless router, with a Thinkpad T43 laptop that has a 802.11 a/b/g modem, getting only 4-6 mbps on wireless speed tests. Just bought a Cisco E2000 N router, and for some reason on Mixed mode it increased the transfer speed to 9-10 mbps, which I don't understand as I didn't think the a/b/g modem could take advantage of N technology. There's no difference in distance to the two routers.
I tried this out on my work laptop which comes equipped with an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 modem, and I basically get the same numbers.
I have a maximum 12 mbps plan with Comcast.
Any thoughts? I'm pretty ignorant about wireless technology, though I've been trying to read up on it. Thanks.
