Taking Care of my new M17x r3 ? <3

Hi hi so I received my new m17x r3 almost exactly a month ago. It was configured to the max with highest available processor, video card, ram, etc etc etc... This laptop is an upgrade from an 8 year old Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop running Windows XP.

I've been doing a lot of heavy gaming (or at least, heavy downloading only so far) and always select the High Performance option in my power management settings. I'm wondering if this option wears away my hardware away quicker? I recently started using the Balanced setting whenever I'm not gaming and even going to the third option, Power Saver, when I'm only web browsing or other minimal task.

A few other things: I shut down my computer whenever I'm not using it (as opposed to just using Hibernate) and have non-raided hard drives.

*Does keeping my m17x at High Performance setting shorten the life of my computer any faster?

*Can I get a few other tips on taking care of my laptop and/or boosting its performance even when the High Performance setting doesn't cut it.

I've heard of overclocking but doesn't seem too safe and wears away my laptop quicker.

Not really,

If all your doing is web brousing, then the laptop will only use what resources you need, thus your loads on the CPU / GPU etc are low.

The power settings menu is good for configuring laptop settings for use on Battery Vs AC Adaptor where you may want to run on lower settings to extend battery life.

what wears the CPU/GPU is the heavy gaming, Heat Kills over time, so make sure to keep the air vents and fans clean to extend the life of the laptop.

Congrats on your New R3 as well.

Heat kills huh :x hmm..

If I game on Power Saver settings ,that would reduce the heat generated from my lappy wouldnt it? The Power Saver I think reduces the amount of work the cpu or vid card (not sure which) can do.

the trade off is the game frame rates will drop, but finding a setting that reduces the load and still goves you a playable frame rate is always an option.
