Sound problems with windows 7
I would try reinstalling the sound drivers first but finding the correct one would be the problem.
If I can't find the win7 drivers, i would reinstall vista to see if it works again. Then we can confirm it is a Win7 driver issue.
It's funny I have the same exact problem. The only difference is my computer is hp dv2718. It happened going from vista to windows 7.
The 'sound, video and game controllers' component has disappeared from Device manager; a message says 'No audio devices are installed
Same thing. I have tried everything you did and am in the same position. If you figure it out let me know .
the bios are the same with the exception that 1 of the units has the option of amd processor.
If the bios aren't correct you won't get far.
I believe it's your bios.
Also you can look at label to see exactly which model you have.
this should fix it
ust in case have Windows 7(32 bit version)
1.Download sp34634.exe from Hp
2.Run sp34634.It will fail.
3.Go to C:\SWSetup\SP34634 or where you unpacked the files.
4.Open cpl308Ba using notepad, then modify it as follows.
%*WDM_AMCAUD.DeviceDesc%=WDM_AMCAUD_DF,<inset the hardware ID specific to your device>
5.You can obtain your hardware ID by opening device manager, click "other devices" then click again the multimedia controller.Go to the details tab then under property click Hardware ID.Mine was,"PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4307&SUBSYS_0506107B&REV_02".But do not include the <> symbols(they just for enhancing readabilty).
6.After that open device manager again click other devices->multimedia controller.Go to Driver tab and click update driver or install driver.Select the option for searching it in your computer i.e. C:\SWSetup\SP34634 then click OK.
7.This method also works for the Windows(64bit) if you downloaded sp35558.exe from HP.FYI,I have stayed without sound on my windows 7 for over 9 months but don't worry i was doing well with my ubuntu on my other partition.I am only happy that know i can sell the laptop at a better price.
