ASUS W2000 (W2U00VP)-What model # is this really?

Thread Starter

I'm trying to work on a friend's ASUS Model W2000 (also has on label on bottom: "W2U00VP"), 17" screen, Win XP Media Center Edition Notebook computer.  I can't seem to find any info at the ASUS site for this model.  Is there another model number that this unit is known by?  I think she bought it at a Best Buy a couple of years ago.

Specifically, I'm trying to add RAM to this unit.  It appears to have 1GB now, and I've found one 512MB DDR2-533 card under the bottom center cover.  I want to put in two 1GB cards.  I suspect that the other slot is under the keyboard, and I'd like to know ahead of time exactly how to open it up without breaking anything.

So, anybody got a way I can access a repair manual OR have specific instructions on how to remove the keyboard? (Any pics will help immensely!!!)

It's the W2V. The other RAM slot is probably under the keyboard. For my best guess to get under the keyboard, first, look for screw holes in the bottom of the case marked K (for keyboard) and remove those. Then flip the notebook over and open it up. You should see some tabs on the top edge of the keyboard. Using a small flat-head screwdriver or plastic tool, pop up the tabs and then swing up the keyboard to get underneath it to the RAM compartment.
