I am thinking about replacing my 700m. I'd like a 12in, built in DVD-/+RW, 4 lbs or lighter, thin laptop. It seems like most laptops are going the netbook route (sigh), but I want a DVD drive. If only I could upgrade the processor of the 700m to an i5 or something... TIA

What is your price range? Manufacturers are still offering 12" systems with built-in optical drive, but a bit pricey.

If you are going that route, I'd look at the offerings from Lenovo, the tablet/laptop hybrids. These are dual OS laptops. So when it's in the laptop form with full size keyboard, your DVD drive, it is running Windows 7. But you can remove the LCD panel and becomes a tablet. This will be running a Linux distribution. What's really awesome is that you don't need to do special shut downs and other step. Just remove or put back, it's all seamless.

The cheaper the better... mellow.gif I don't understand why something as old as a DVD drive is considered premium nowadays... huh.gif

I may wait for the new dell adamo line of laptops. I may have to settle for 13.3in as 12in laptops are not made that much.
