I will be graduating soon and will going into Mechanical Engineering. To keep it simple, I am looking for a laptop that can run games like Rift at a good/high quality. I am not much of a gamer, but I figure in my spare time I will game a bit on my laptop and Xbox 360. My desktop is pretty outdated, so I will get am external monitor and just have a nice laptop. Nothing too bulky as I need to transport it a decent amount. 


1) What is your budget? $2000 (the best system I can get for the cheapest price is best though)

2) What size notebook would you prefer?
c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator. United States

4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? No

6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? Media (music, photoshop, etc), probably no major engineering work as I will be doing most of the engineering work in class (probably won't be doing serious engineering stuff till graduate school), still nice to have something that can perform for engineering programs, Gaming

7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? Transporting and Desk

8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games? Yes, Rift, MMORPG

9) How many hours of battery life do you need? 4+

10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? Doesn't matter

Notebook Components

17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive? Probably 200+, Would like SSD, but they are so expensive

18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? Bluray would be nice but not a necessity
