XPS M1530 LCD Problem Error 2000-0321

Hi

I have an XPS M1530 that had a problem with LCD. Actually there is no warranty. Its LCD showed noting one day I powered it on but the system booted. I tried to close and open the lid and it showed a black band on the right, actually showing a good windows layout at resolution 1024x768. The GPU had no resolution more than that and there were no back light. But when I plugged an external display, it showed the picture without any problem with higher resolutions. I brought it to a repair shop and they said to me that there was a problem with GPU and its heat sink. They repaired it, but now, it's back. I opened the bottom covers and there is no sign of bad conditions on the GPU. Also, O checked diagnostocs and it reported Error Code 2000-0321. LCD EEPROM was not detected or something similar.

Anybody can help me?cry.gif

(sorry for my english)

IF the laptop works on an external monitor, it a pretty good bet your problem is with the laptops display.

You can check / replace the GPU cable inside the laptop - runs from the cideo card to the back of the lcd screen, and is usually about 15-25 dollars to buy.

You may need a new LCD display, and if so a new GPU cable would be a good ideal anyways along with a matching LCD Inverter.

If you can get the entire LCD display fomr someplace like Ebay, it would be a easy swap.

But first start by re-seating the LCD cable, and see what happens

Thanks.

I am suspecting the LCD and the cable is the problem, too. But the clause : "It is the problem of some pins of GPU" got me in trouble. They claim that some pins of GPU are heated and lose connectivity. (I think they are not right) Does GPU use same data transfer lines for internal LCD and external or they are different??? Here I can't find the cable. But I'll give it a try.

There are separate video lines for the external vs internal GPU connection

Common problems when both internal laptop display and external monitor displays the same problems are usually a result of bad video memory (and over heated chips that the solder have melted off)

it is possible to have a bad connector on the GPU that the display connectors to, but that usually on fails if the cable was not seated properly.

If you lift off the front bezel (power button) and the front and rear display causing you will see the video cable

It should split off from the GPU with one end going to the LCD display (backside) and the other to the inverter.

You will find complete tear down manuals on Dells site for free,

OK. I opened the notebook and reconnected the display cable, reconnected LCD side and the inverted. But there is no change. The thing I should say is that when pressing D+Power, LCD shows some sort of white, red, blue and green colors covering all the screen (they are without back light). What this means????????

Does it do this on an external monitor

If so, its the GPU

If not, then you may need either a new LCD cable, and or LCD Display.

It is possible there is damage to the GPU connector where the GPU cable is attached. try ising a magnifying glass and inspect that as well.
