Witcher 2 Mods and Performance Tweaks

Hello, thought there should be a separate thread for the upcoming mods that will surely come and performance tweaks so people won't have to root through a generic thread that should be about discussing the game itself.

Stuttering and low frame rate issue on AMD with DRM copies (Steam, DVD, anything not from Good Old Games).
- Solution 1: Buy from GoG, they are the sister company of CDP and the developer CDP will get a larger share of the profits than going through 3rd party like Steam. Only the GoG copies are DRM free. Steam will try to say they don't have DRM, but they do. You can read it from CDP what type it is.
- Solution2: Steam will say DRM not there, they are liars. Steam copy just like every other copy not from GOG uses a benign form of Sony's SecureRom. It's not just sitting there, it's used once to legitimize copy online. But the Paul.dll from SecureRom has overhead performance costs that can cause stuttering and low framerate. Delete paul.dll.

Copy GoG's DRM free .exe to your bin folder. http://www7.zippyshare.com/v/9136036/file.html

Don't be discouraged if you see liars on the other popular notebook forum bragging of their performance. Lying about your notebook gives you bigger e-peen.

The Witcher 2 is brutal on even the best Desktop cards. This is on High Setting @ 1080p. There are liars on another popular notebook forum claiming with their puny HD6970 (slow HD6850) can run their game with uber settings (ubersampling off) @ 1080p. Truly pathetic.

500

So how do you get the best performance from an AMD notebook?

There is no option in Witcher 2 for Anistropic Filtering. But this does wonders for Witcher 2. Also enable Anti-Aliasing in game. So here it is how I do it on the HD5870M.

Preset High @ 1280*720 with Anti-Aliasing on in game. You think 720p? I can't play at such low resolution! Trust me, this game looks phenomenal if you do as the SSAO, Sun Shafts, Blur and Motion Blur look astounding! The AA in game is MLAA, there are just too many textures, too much going on for tradiational AA. If you try to use AA from your Catalyst Controller, you will just get a white screen, yes this game is that complex. In your Catalyast Control Center though, force enable Anistropic Filtering. This will give your 720p lower resolution an incredible improvement on appearance.

With this setting I'll get 25-55 FPS, 55 on a good scene, 25 on a tough scene with 20 or more AI fighting in daylight with sun shafts and everything. This is smooth and I actually think I'm playing at 1080p. The lines are aliased well and with AF everything looks crisp. And with motion blur and blur + vsync, the game is butter smooth.

Combat in this game is affected greatly by FPS. Geralt is more responsive. So do what you can get to get steady FPS above 30 if possible! Resolution is the best way to get performance. Lower it and then use Anistropic Filtering in game to improve the appearance.

And lastly don't get discouraged when you see morons who need to preen their e-peen by posting rubbish like I can play at 1080p with Uber setting when even desktop HD6950s are struggling.
