Now I can only boot up to the Xp splash screen. At this point the boot up returns to the Start-Up screen and then goes through the same routine, over and over.

Have I fried my motherboard? Can anybody give me a clue on what to do to cause a normal full boot up to the main Xp Window program.

I managed to purchase the two HP RECOVERY DISC'S and applied the recover function to this problem. The first and second recover applications came back with a "files are compressed" error and I couldn't go any further. The third method of recover worked. The only thing wrong with that method is I had to re-install all the original utilities and all other programs (Windows Xp Prof OS was ok). After the re-install process was completed all works ok now. I hope this suggestion will help someone with the same problem.
