Need help finding a new laptop

Thread Starter

I am in the process of replacing my old Dell Inspiron E1505 and am having trouble finding the right computer for my needs.

I'm in college but will be graduating in a year so I need something that will carry on after I graduate. I will mostly be using it for school, music editing, video editing (Sony Vegas), minor photo editing, and minor gaming (Portal 1&2, Diablo 2&3<when it is released>, and Starcraft).

I need something with great battery life and is portable without sacrificing computing power. I dont want anything bigger than a 15in but would go as small as a 13in. High Resolution display would be nice and blu-ray is not something I'm worried about, but it would be a cool add-on.

I'm looking at spending no more than $2500 but I want to be sure that I get the most bang for my buck.

Help me find the right laptop so I can get rid of my ancient Inspiron.

p.s. dont turn this into a Mac vs PC question...i just need advice.

Take a look at our News Section - loads of 13" series with good performance specs for less than what you are willing to pay

cheers ...

thanks that was helpful. i noticed the Sony Vaio S and i had looked at it but was afraid that it wouldn't have the power to do the things that i would need it for.

You mentioned "great" battery life - not sure if the Sony Vaio S manages that... at least according to this review here it does 2.5 hrs of video playback, which isn't bad but not sure it's all that great shakes.

Just a FYI - also the reviewer notes the screen is highly reflective but in fairness, also has a lot of positive comments, such as praising its solid build and fast performance.
