Gateway M-Series Laptop - Can't Start System Restore

Hi All,

I am trying to get my Gateway M Series system restore to kick off.  I was able to see the partition from Vista and can see it with a boot disk (using FDISK).   Here is what I have done so far.

1) Used the Alt F10 suggested by Gateway - It appears to create another partition with nothing in it but never goes any further.  No restore program starts.   Black screen with some minor hard drive activity.

2) Booted with a boot cd - used FDISK and made the restore partition the active partition and deleted the extra partition created in step 1.   Rebooted.  The restore program does some up but the option to restore to factory defaults is grayed out.  The only option available is to exit.

3)  FDISK again and the extra partition is back.

What do I have to do to get this restore to start?   I have restored a ton of laptops and never had this issue.  I am thinking that my restore partition may be corrupt, but the fact that it does start when I make the partition active makes me think that I am just doing something wrong.

Have you tried Alt and f11?

Yes - Did not do anything.

I ordered the recovery media from Gateway.  Hopefully that will work.  The partition must be corrupt.
