Acer 230 wifi probs

Hi all

I was given a wifi card by a local refufbisher but said not sure if works or not,fair enuf so I fixed it in the slot under keyboard assume right place?

No antenna tho surely it should have one??

Anyway went to acer site for the model put in what I thought was right 802 11g ect

but no joy.I have a wifi symbol on task bar but its in Red and says ESSID no signal

Also in device man yellow ? says no network controller or pci modem I can get the latter off site but it would not affect wifi.

Went to Intel site wifh pci\ven 8086 4220 and it says there isnt one!! what are the fixes and where are they--- atheros--- Intel--- Realtek which is which??

Which OS are you using? pci\ven 8086 4220 points to an Intel Card.

Yes Its xp Pro but where is the network controller I cant find it on acer site but I may be looking at wrong info Should this not have been wireless from new or is it an xtra?

Ok I have put in the intel proset and dev mangr now clear but it says no wifi in area when I know there is from another pc I had-- is there a way to configure the intel proset interface and should the wireless card have antenna wires attached

The system should be able to see the device (card), but without the antenna you will have issue with connections. Try re-installing the chipset and the modem driver.
