I came into this laptop and it does not have the wireless option ie: card and antenna..I have managed to find a card on EBay but cannot find an antenna.nor where the antenna would be strung if I did find one...Looked at the disassembly instructions for the 1400 and nothing in there about the antenna or where it might be located..
Dont want to spend any big bucks on this, just something to play with..had a couple of old PCmcia wireless cards laying around and could not get them to work..the restore CDs would not fully load (2nd disk) could not find a particular file so after several attemps it now has Puppy Linux on it and playing with that

They do sell antenna on eBay Gene (like this)- make sure that the connectors are correct. And you can place the wire (antenna) anywhere behind the LCD (tape them)

Took a closer look at the owners manual online and it shows the wifi switch below the floppy drive as well as the led light..this model has neither...I put the mini card in and took it downstair near the wireless modem to see if it would see it with the Puppy Linux...it must have as it identified the wireless name I gave the router but was unuable to connect (or maybe I was doing it wrong) new to Puppy..I will keep playing with it and asking questions on the Linux forum

Don't see any switches - but look like what we have been discussing - antenna behind the LCD

There is a chapter on "incompatible NIC"

Dont see how there could be an incompatability issue as this is the wireless module for the 1400 module...looking at the module I am not sure as to where the antenna would plug on as there doesnt seem to be any contacts other than the row of contacts which seat the module (same as memory modules and even the same retaining bars on either side) I will poke around and see what I can see in those links and on the net)

Usually you will see mini antennae plugs on the opposite end of the the contacts which plug into the motherboard.. Also a lot of old pcmcia cards are incompatible with new routers, why I set an access point up in order to address this issue... Have found that Edimax products have worked with everything I have, including a year 2000 iMac....
