ML3109 IDE Bus Defective?

Hello everyone.

I installed new 120Gb IDE hard disk and W7 in a Gateway ML3109 (W340UI), everything worked fine. After installing operating system updates, the computer failed to recognize the hard drive and DVD drive in the BIOS. Of course, it isn't possible to boot and you get the error "Operating System Not Found. " The strange thing is that I can't see neither the DVD drive in the BIOS.

The disk works fine if I plug in another machine. I have no idea of the cause of the problem.
Could be the BIOS backuo battery? or the motherboard?mellow.gif
Help me, please

Loads had dodgy motherboards, usually the battery charging circuit though.... It will see easily a 320Gb drive, so me thinks the board has gone faulty... I would be tempted to strip it down an see if you can see any damage - it is a pretty easy laptop to strip....

Thank you, Mr T. but I think the cause is something about the power line to those devices. So, I'll keep searching.

Try remove the hard drive, remove and re-seat also the optical drive ... then try again with just the optical drive and see.

cheers ...
