Upgrading Inspiron 1545 CPU

Thread Starter

I'm interested in upgrading my processor. I use the computer for music production and it has proved to be too slow. I don't think the RAM is an immediate problem (2 GB) -- it's the processor that is sluggish (Celeron 585, 1M Cache, 2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB).

Anyway, I've been hunting for information on what I can do exactly, but it is frequently contradictory and confusing. Is it true I can use any of the Core 2 Duo mobiles? I read that I need something with Socket P, but most of them listed here don't say a socket type.

How much of an improvement would I get from switching to, say, a Core 2 Duo T7400 (4M Cache, 2.16 GHz, 667 MHz FSB)?

Not sure if you can plug in a T7xxx CPU; T6600 or some P series CPU maybe (many users have success with these)

cheers ...
