it doesn't really matter if its a mac or a windows just what ever computer is the best for grafic design is what i want. i dont have a preffrance i've used both.

Then the next question to you would be if your work (product) will find place among a Mac or a Windows culture. The advert dept where I work use strictly Mac machines.

Graphic cards are just as good as software that uses on them. Which app will you be using? Use that to go backward to run after a good overall hardware piece.

Anything with that video card though nVidia's 485M, would be the most badass thing you could use for gaming or any 3D application like autoCAD or GMax.
And I'd envy you forever. That shit's as expensive as crack cut with gold.

If you want to do Graphic Design, especially if it's 3D...

Then you want the beefiest high end CPU you can get, not the GPU as the poster above me said. There is a reason why a Mac Tower comes with DUAL XENONs and crappy AMD. Because Apple want to save on GPU costs and spend it all on CPU. Contrary to popular thought among the ignorant, 3D rendering is superior on CPU. The complex filters and operations for the best quality image is still CPU king. Among professionals in the industry, even the software developers have said, GPU rendering is NOT suitable for final production, the quality is just not good enough. GPU rendering is great for previewing etc, it has it's uses.

So I would go with Nvidia. AMD is sucking when it comes to OpenGL. And almost all the rendering and graphics software use OpenGL not DirectX. AMD OpenGL is downright shoddy and worthless and I am an AMD user. If I was a graphic designer, I'd toss this garbage OpenGL AMD for Nvidia, but I'm not :3.

Nvidia will give you the benefit of the best compatibility with pro software, CUDA if it supports it, OpenCL support and the best OpenGL support, beating AMD and Intel combined easily. Now you don't need something incredibly, a midrange card will do like a 460M, 560M or even less.

Your focus should be on the best CPU you can get. Sandy Bridge Quad with HT. The best you can afford. For CPU upgrades you can get that for Asus, MSI, Clevo or Dell, not a problem.

Good luck..

Well guess I'm wrong, sorry mate!

it's still a badass card.

Not entirely wrong. It's true in "SOME" instances, GPGPU rendering can be faster, but with the recent huge boosts in performance from SB and upcoming AMD Bulldozer, those gaps in speed are reduced considerably. But GPGPU can be used for previewing, but not suitable for final production. I'm not a 3D Graphics artists, this is just from what I've gathered reading some stuff from actual software developers and SiGGraph. And for some, a beefy card like AMD FirePro is wortwhile for the EyeFinity. But as said, even the Mac Tower didn't come with a FirePro, it was a standard HD5770 AMD and upgraded to a HD5870 AMD. Nothing fancy.
