Dell M90 - 4GB Fitted, but BIOS can only see 2GB in Windows7 64bit!? - Please help!!

Hi,

I have a Dell M90 which I use for 3d CAD as you can see from my website http://www.thebigconsultant.com

I now have a problem however that is caused by up the design of the m90 computer. The problem is that the m90 is advertised to be able to use 4GB, however only 2GB up shows up on Win7

I have installed 64 bit Windows7 to try and correct this.

But the problem still persists. I have read somewhere that the problem is with the BIOS...

- My BIOS is revision A08, and I think that it is the latest.

- However, I do know that users who have reported this problem have managed to get 3.25 GB of memory available.

I cant seem to get more than 2GB visible to the desktop, which is really annoying as my 3D CAD uses tonnes of memory!!

I have completed all of the windows updates, but I still have a problem. I am unsure what to do, as I think that I have the latest BIOS (rev AO8) and the memory that I have put in there should be fine.

I really need to access 4GB to use the system for CAD, as it was intended.

Can anybody please help?

Kind regards,

Bid

Hmmm indeed Steve!

Thanks for your reply by the way. Yeah, I did read about the BIOS on the Dell M90, and its limited chipset for memory. But I expected to get 3.25GB , and I would be very happy with this, especially as I have to run SolidWorks on the machine.

Kind regards, Bid

No need to dup posts biddy smile.gif

64-bit OS will help you see 3.25GB, no more than that due to chipset constraint.

cheers ...

Sorry for the double post. I am new to this forum, and got bit mixed up with the buttons.

Yeah, I did put 64bit on prior to posting this... Its kind of why I gave up and started posting here!!

I had 32bit on there and 2Gigs reported. So I put on 64 bits and still 2GB?

And I have bought now 2 sets of Ram. I have swapped ram over and still same problem. I should be getting 3,25GB should'nt I?

I am really stuck now, and my BIOS says A08. I put a programme called Speccy on there, and it gives more details about my mobo. I'll post it here!!
