That is a good price for that range of notebooks (price might drop some more in 2-3months time) - must you have "6X Blu-Ray Writer/Reader + 8X DVDRW/CDRW Super Multi Combo Drive"? I personally prefer a normal stand alone blu-ray writer / player instead of the built-in one - more flexibility

i do this so its covered by warranty

MSI Warranty is one year longer. But Asus warranty is still more than fine. One year of accidental is incredible. Free 30 day pixel. This is because the chance of you finding a dead pixel is in the first 30 days. And majority of laptop accidents occur in the first year. This has you covered. Free shipping back and forth. And while Asus has some issues, I've been told repair with MSI is actually a bigger hassle. Having experienced Asus RMA service, I'd probably prefer Asus warranty services over MSI still.

Now for the notebooks, I'd go with MSI. Their new keyboards with Steel series should be great, I'm not a huge fan of the G73 keyboards which I've been using for almost year and a half now. Also the MSI has easy access to everything in the back whereas the G73 you have to take it all apart. The cooling system in the G73 is quieter and arguably better. But MSI does just fine with one fan and the easy access to everything trumps Asus's innovative design. MSI also uses the standard GPUs I believe. Asus uses proprietary MXM slot and they do stupid crap to ensure only Asus branded GPUs work with their notebooks. For a few other reasons, I'd choose MSI over Asus right now. Asus needs to wake up and realize that enthusiasts buy the high end and enthusiasts have different demands than their entry level, business notebook buyers.
