Samsung R710 problem...

Hi, I have managed to get a second hand motherboard for a Samsung R710 that I am currently re-building, it's an on going project sort of thing.

My problem:- it came to me with a charging problem but it was cheap, so I took the risk and changed the DC jack, bear in mind I am no expert with a soldering iron, here's what happens now.

Motherboard works fine on battery power only.

Motherboard does not work on AC power only.

Motherboard does not work on AC power + battery installed.

If I plug in an external monitor the motherboard works fine, charges everything.

Any ideas from anyone would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Replacing the VGA connector? Or remove it and leave it out 1st then test it. My wild approach if it is my board winknudge.gif

Thanks for the quick response,

I've been playing with it some more today and found I don't actually need to connect the monitor just touch the outside casing of the monitor connector to the outside casing of the laptop VGA connector....weird..

Goody, replacing that VGA connector might cure your problem. My suspicion is such that someone used this port before and probably forced it with the cable end and causing a crack inside, short circuiting something winknudge.gif
