Toshiba Satellite M305-S4910 screen shuts off when opened

Thread Starter

My stepmom has a Toshiba that is starting to act up. I installed Windows 7 on it yesterday, and it was working fine all morning, but now when she opens the screen more than half-way, the screen shuts off.

I remoted into her computer, so I can see the machine is still working/responding...but the screen is blank.

I'm thinking the LCD screen ribbon or the inverter is bad, but I don't know which I should replace.

anyone have any hints?

Sounded like more either the cable between the screen and the mainboard. Take the screen off and take verify it

There are two possibilities either is it lcd cable or lcd cover sensor ( it turns off the screen when its closed ). However if you move the screen and its still dark its not the lcd cable. As far I remember the sensor is installed on board in this model, but it might be connected on the cable.
