HP Pavilion dv6 - need to know compatible graphics cards and CPU's so can upgrade

My HP Pavilion dv6 has only the stock specs.

I'm in need of a better CPU and graphics card, and I'd rather mod it than go buy a new notebook.

but I need to know what is compatible with it.

oh, and I'm looking for top notch replacements, preferably in the range of quadcore CPU's.

What is your exact model number at the moment? Not so sure that you can upgrade the graphic card on theses HP DV6.

I found my graphics card solution, just need to solve my CPU problem.

my laptop is the dv6-3210us

with a AMD Phenom II N660 dual core

I looked at AMD's CPU comparisons, and I'm wondering if my laptop could take in the Phenom II Black Edition X940 Quad Core.

everything seems compatible, just a 10W difference between the 2 processors, wondering if that will be too much of a difference.

So what was your solution for the graphic card? Quad Core? give it a shot, you might need to find an appropriate BIOS though

I found that there is a compatible AMD graphics card, a higher end version. and it seems like its good enough, though not the best.

I'll try doing the Quadcore, and if any problems arise I'll voice them out.

You can't just replace the graphic card alone on this model. Time to get yourself another notebook

You cant change the graphics card on a laptop like a desktop PC, it is usually soldered onto the motherboard and very rarely is separate. On the DV6, it is soldered onto the motherboard and you have to replace it with exactly the same GPU or it won't work at all. On the CPU front, you can change the CPU, but you are very limited to what you can change it too, and definitely not a desktop one either.

If you wish better performance, you will have to do what qhn advises and that is get a better spec notebook...
