MSI rolled out its new generation GT683 gaming laptop which packs Intel's second generation Core i7-2630QM quad core processor and nVidia's new generation GeForce GTX 560M discrete graphics card with 1.5GB of GDDR5 display memory. It also supports DirectX 11 providing superior performance to greatly enhance visual details and comes with top-end Dynaudio and THX TruStudio Pro smart wrap around sound as well as a full HD display to further immerse you into the game worlds that you explore.

Specifications at a glance:

- 2nd Generation Core™ i7-2630QM quad core processor giving each core clock speeds of 2.00GHz
- nVidia's® GeForce® GTX 560M discrete graphics card with 1.5GB of GDDR5 display memory. They also feature large-capacity GDDR5 high-speed display memory coupled with nVidia's powerful display core, and DirectX 11 support for better detail in games.
- MSI's own Turbo Drive Engine (TDE) technology, so with just one touch of the luminescent Turbo hotkey located above the keyboard instantly revs up performance
- own powerful Cooler Boost technology in the GT683. Again, just one touch of the luminescent hotkey above the keyboard kicks in the powerful cooling function which also shows current core temperatures and fan RPMs. Now, NB systems can stay cool even when working for long periods in hot conditions.

- THX TruStudio Pro wrap around sound, heretofore found only in cinemas. The sound is pumped out of top-end internal speakers, so that the GT683 reproduces any music type or frequency faithfully.

- MSI's own Cinema Pro technology for the best possible graphics. A touch of the Cinema Pro hotkey instantly switches to film mode for higher resolution and richer colors to bring you the same great audio experience found in live performances, films, and recording studios.
- MSI's own i-Charger technology. More powerful electrical current to the USB speeds up charging more than three-fold, so that you don't need to spend nearly as much time to get your mobile devices up and running again.
- USB3.0 ports which boast transfer speeds of 4.8Gbps
- MSI’s own ECO Engine, a power-saving technology which allows you to select from among five power management levels—Video Game, Film, Presentation, Word Processing, and Turbo Battery, automatically adjusting display brightness as well as on/off switch, sleep mode, and processor performance settings, maximizing battery flexibility and use per charge.

I have ordered the bare bones version of this laptop. supplying my own CPU, memory, Hard Drives, and wireless card.

Base unit price (including the GTX560M GPU) was $789.00

My biggest reason (besides the price) was the laptop supports 4 x SODIMMs and 2 Hard drives. I could not find any other 15 inch laptop with these specs.

Yeah, the GT683 does look good and I'll check it out as I'm looking for a replacement for my trusty old M1710 which is still working perfectly, but is way long in the tooth. I certainly hope MSI has incorporated a better cooling system design that allows for easy cleaning to keep it running cool as I don't think Dell has figured that one out yet. azz.gif
