Aspire recovery problem

Hello,

I own an Acer Aspire 7740 laptop. The system has been malfunctioning and having problems booting up. I own the Acer factory disks (5) and wished to use them to boot the system from the DVD and then format the drive and reload the OS ( Windows 7 32 bit). Following the instructions that came with the disk did not work. I was directed to restore the system from an earlier point, not the DVD,s. This worked for a short while and then the problems started again. I noticed that the instruction sheet that was included with the disks stated that you should reboot and press F12 for an Acer product. This did not work. The Acer website contradicts this and states  you should use Alt and F10. This also does not work. I contacted Acer via a chat and they gave me instructions for an Emachines laptop.

Currently, I can boot up in safe mode. The hard drive seems to function as well as the DVD. Can anyone please tell me how to resolve this issue. By the way, I also made a disk image on an external hard drive.

Thanks in advance for any help with solving this problem.

Charles

Does any of the recovery disks contain the Operating System? If yes you need to boot up from there, reformat and use the rest of the disks for drivers and apps

Thanks for the quick reply.  Yes, the disks do contain the operating system, but I cannot boot laptop from DVD drive.  Only way to boot is the hard drive.

Any suggestions for booting up from DVD ?  I have tried using F12 and Alt F10 when starting, but this did not work.

Thanks again for any suggestions.

Press ESC or DEL at start. See if you can get into BIOS and change the boot order

charles1 to boot from factory discs you have to have a external cd rom. acer disable boot on the cd rom you have. if you repartition drive it will not boot. acer has a hidden partition that holds boot up. you can press the FN and F10 key together and reboot it that way too.

i recommend buying a full version of win7 32 bit get a external cd rom then you can repartition drive . thats what i did. i bought whats called a system builders disc of win7 32 bit, installed it, repartition drive. acer had mine set for 69.5 drive c 69.5 drive d, now i have a 149 gb drive by eliminating thier hidden partition. of that 134 gb still available.
