Display problems Acer to HDTV

Thread Starter

Hi,

I am new to this forum, looking for guidance regarding displaying Acer screen on a HDTV.  I am connecting a Acer Aspire 5610z to a Vizio E370VA 37-inch HDTV through the VGA ports on both.

I know I will probably need to change the resolution on the laptop, but I am not getting that far. When I connect the vga cord to the TV and then plug it into the computer, the taskbar and icons disappear from the computer screen. I just see my desktop background. I've tried pushing the function keys, they do nothing. The icons and taskbar will reappear when I unplug the vga cord from the computer. I am using Vista Home Premium.

I've tried manually turning off the laptop by holding the power button, then turning back. The start up screens are actually displayed on the TV, but when it gets to the password I am back to blank. The TV displays "invalid format" at that point.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

There was a similar thread on this not too long ago. Something to do with the checking (or unchecling) of using this display as primary

cheers ...

your tv probably only supports 1024x768 on the vga port. this is normal for a lot of hdtv's. if you higher resolution, try using hdmi or dvi if available.
