Well , the pictures just dont look good kinda blocky and not sharp at all. Text is totally crips and clear but any kind of sign or picture or litle icon doesnt. Even when u go to dell site , the dell logo on top left side dont look good. Anyone know whats causing this.?

By the way, i am running Call of duty now perfectly with dell Ati drivers at 1200 resolution with everything on MAximum..played single player for over 4hours with no lockup or slowdown at all graphics are awesome.

turn down the dpi or turn off automatic font scaling

where is automatic font scaling?
Lowering DPI makes it harder for me to read.
THanks

The problem exists with LARGE FONTS installed on a wide-aspect screen. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way around this. Either change to SMALL FONTS or live with the screwed-up graphics.

You might want to take a look at the following thread. I prefer the tiny, crisp text at default DPI and font settings. This thread explains how to reverse Dell's preinstalled settings.

Yeah... change the Font Size from Large Fonts, 120 dpi to Small Fonts, 96 dpi inside the Display Properties (Advanced, General tab) and that will fix the blocky pics with IE.

If you find the text too small for your liking then just change the font settings under the "Appearance" tab on the Display Settings instead.

It is not just IE, it is all around blockiness like in the Start Menu logo and the quicklaunch icons. It was set to large fonts as default but I changed to normal and it was like Honey I Shrunk the Pixels. I can't believe how small everything is, but all pictures are now correctly rendered. Why would this happen, why would font size change pictures? Is there anyway to alleviate the annoyance of the blockiness without changing to 96 dpi fonts?

Well the 120DPI isn't just for fonts...it scales everything to 125%. One should always change that setting back to 96DPI on a fixed-pixel device such as an LCD. To control font size independently (as mentioned above) go to the Appearance tab of Display control panel, click on Advanced, and change the font size there.

For those of you that are lost ?!?!?!

The fix that Hazridi is talking about will allow you to keep your DPI at 120 and view images properly in Internet Explorer. This is the correct way to do it:

Goto Start, then Run
Type regedit and press enter
Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

On the right find UseHR and double click it

Change the value to 0 (zero)

Restart Internet Explorer and enjoy

Re:

Ok, that reg change is for IE but what about other parts of the GUI throughout Windows? Is there an option for that?
For all other parts of Windows, you will either have to live with small pixels (with 96DPI), or with interpolated pixels (with 120DPI). It's really your choice. But like I said, you can control fonts independently. Was font size what you are really concerned about?
