G51-JX X3 (G60JX) Resolution Problem

Hey guys, one time I figured I'd hook up this laptop to my flat screen with an HDMI cord, I played some GTA 4, but the TV video shrinked because of my resolution in the game, so I brang the resolution back up to the highest it could go, but now when I try to bring it back down when just playing with the laptop, the size of the game shrinks, this has become a problem because leaving it on top resolution makes it drop all the way to 16 FPS sometimes because the resolution is too demanding sad.gif

What should I do?
Please somebody respond,

thanks

Is it just the game or the whole notebook as well?

Hmm good question, it seems to only be GTA 4 now that I think of it, I tried out Bad Company 2 and it ran on all of the resolutions as full screen, perhaps I should look into this problem with GTA 4 users, but the only strange this is that this only started happening when I used an HDMI cord.

Review the profile setting (system configuration) of the game itself yet?

You mean like the graphics? I've been tried changing that and I've reinstalled the game several times, also I've even replugged the HDMI back in to see if I could fix it that way, nothing though. huh.gif

Interresting. Re-installing the game alone might not do it. You might need to remove every single register entry and dlls belonging to this game first.

Hmmmm, thanks qhn, I will try this, but how would I start to do this? Because I've uninstalled and installed again many times since this problem started, but I guess not all of the files were uninstalled, how would I perform a 100% 'clean' uninstall of GTA 4?

Good question there. Download Drivers Cleaners (free) or Renovo Uninstaller (free version works fine) and see if you can dig all the remmants from that game and removing them

Alright, thanks, I'll try to do that, and btw, I tried changing resolution in the Nvidia Control Panel to help, I tried changing to 1600 x 1024, but it also had the black bars on both sides of the screen, is that normal? bored.gif

Check the BIOS settings. Black bar on the sides can happen, but it is not the norm

I'll check to see if my Bios has that, I'll reply back soon.

There is no option like that in my BIO's :/
Should I still do the GTA 4 uninstall? Or should I do something else, I've also already updated my Nvidia graphics driver in the last month.

I would - the uninstallation and reinstallation of the the game with a thorough clean up of the dlls. Create a restore point first before anything.

Alright, I'll do that and get back to this thread later on

Good luck and have fun. I am still baffled by that HDMI causing the screen issue though, if it was really that cable that did it

I uninstalled using CCleaner, made sure there was no rockstar programs, no game files, ran a registry cleaner, ran ccleaner, etc.
Then I start it up, set the resolution to 1400 x 1050, same problem cry.gif

I seriously think the only other thing that could be causing this problem is Nvidia... since when I try to change resolution in Nvidia Control Panel, same thing happens with the black bars sad.gif
What do I do? Should I reinstall Nvidia too?

cCleaner is not aggressive enough for this task - use Renovo Uninstaller instead
