ASUS N55SF - do we need a subwoofer on a laptop?

Hello everybody. We've just received the latest Asus N55SF laptop and what amazed us was the fact it came with a subwoofer. We've tested a few multimedia portable computers but none had the same audio quality. The sound is great but this is a laptop and we don't see people carrying the woofer all the time. What do you think of it?

Our Asus N55 came with the Intel Sandy Bridge i7 2.0 GHz processor and the Nvidia GT 555M graphics.

Neither of them. We are a tech site writing about laptops, tablets, ereaders and the technology behind them. We are currently reviewing the Asus N55 and thought it would be nice to find out what people thought of this laptop. That way we can write a review which will contain ideas the viewers will identify as their own.

Not really. Personally I've tested monitors and headphones and I can say the N55 subwoofer really makes a difference. It may not be as good as a dedicated audio woofer but for a laptop it's great!

Wondering if this subwoofer would work on other brands/models, or just stictly with this ASUS

I don't think so. The subwoofer has a 2.5mm jack (rather than the usual 3.5mm) and it has 3 rings on it (rather than 2).

Clearly Asus won't release any adaptors. After all this is the first laptop with its own subwoofer that I know of. And I also think Asus won't be selling the subwoofer as a standalone product.
