hp dv6 switchable graphics

I am test driving a dv6-6135dx (AMD processor) that I bought in the store and have decided to order the same general model from HP with the intel quad core i7 2.0 processor.  I am not very knowledgable about the graphics cards involoved but I know from the reviews and HP forum that the switchable graphics does not work with Open GL.  They are supposed to have a fix for this and I ordered the intel version of what I have now in the hopes that a fix will come out before I have to return it.  How do I know wether or not the switchable graphics is working or not when it comes?  Is there a program that can check to see which graphics card is working?  How do I use the control panel to sitch it to the better graphics card to see if it works?  As I said I am a novice at this and need to know how to check to see if the better graphics card works so I can know wether to return the laptop or not.  Any help would be appreciated.  I am currently using the dv6-6135dx and will be returning it this weekend and was hoping to try your suggestions on this one so I know what I am doing when the quad core arrives.

Thanks! THis has some useful info but I'm still not sure how to know which of the 2 graphics cards is being used when I play a game or run an app.  I have 2 graphics cards in this laptop- one is a low power card and the other a high power card.  Is there a program that will tell you which card is being used during the playing of a game or running of app?

If memory serves, this program ((http://www.piriform.com/speccy)) called Specy...has temprature readings of video cards within its programs...if your computer has two cards and are wondering which one you are using...by playing a game (high intensity) check the temps and should tell you which card is being used...let it idle for a bit and close out the game then try someting basic like Facebook or something and then check the temps again...If both cards have temp sensors and are identified should be easy differenciating between the two
