Aspire 1 touchpad

I can't get the previous and next to work consistently.  It works one out 50 times or worse.  Is there any trick on the move?

The touchpad comes with the elan(?) configuration. One option is to use both fingers to move left and right (prev/next).  In a browser, this can make it go backward and forward, but only occasionally.
