LT2802u - RAM & XP Install Instructions - Page 2

Not to rant too much.  I got the keyboard off and the screws out but the black slot marked "door release," not door "access" would not pop out anywere despite pushing "VERY" hard on that spot.  Assuming I can eventually "pop the door down," which way does the hinge  open--door release side?-- so that  I don't "pop the wrong side."  Many thanks for any additional details here.  Clearly I was not meant to perform this operation and Gateway--for whatever reason--did not want anyone else to do it either.

Search the net (youtube) for Acer Netbook keyboard removal/ram replacement - you should be able to find a similar model to the LT2802U for reference

Can you use this as reference?

I would like to form, ally thank you on the work to remove Windows 7 Starter and installing XP. I was able to do this befoe I read your post, but was not able to find or download the necessary drivers. Thank you for your post.

I am  really disgusted with Gateway and Microsoft for presenting such a poor OS as the 7 Starter Edition. Without spending an extra $100 to upgrade to a fuller version, you were trapped. It almost seems illegal.

Thanks Again

Agreed - I put the Ultimate version on my Toshiba NB200 netbook and it is running fine. Microsoft overestimated its OS, or is it underestimating (?) winknudge.gif

Hi and thanks for the info. I am a complete amateur and was able to install the new Ram. The only difficulty I had was with reattaching the keyboard ribbon. That little black clip has to be snapped into place and the ribbon doesn't have much slack to work with.

Anyways, thanks heaps and now my little netbook runs like a champ.

gracias,

dwight

ps- to anyone looking to upgrade, I used crucial.com and got it delivered in 2 days for 20$ total. Well worth it. Follow the posted instructions as closely as you can and best of luck. If you are daunted, trust me, if I can do it, anyone can.....

I succeeded, but keyboard keeps popping out now. I messed up the retaining clips. They're no longer springy. They're flimsy plastic leaf springs. Where do I get replacements?

Can you explain how the little black clip snaps back into place...I can't seem to get mine to stay on and the keyboard ribbon keeps sliding out. I may have added more RAM to my wife's netbook, but it won't do any good if the keyboard doesn't work. :)

*UPDATE* after hours of frustration WE finally figured it out... Yes, it took both my wife and I putting our heads together to figure out how to put the little black "latch" back on so that the ribbon can be inserted underneath and the latch closed down to hold it to the board. I have a lot of experience building and upgrading computers and laptops, and after today I will never again buy a netbook that doesn't have the convenient little doors to access the RAM and hard disks. :)
