Thunderbolt speeds

Thread Starter

Intel has stated that the new thunderbolt connection has a speed of 10 Gb/s and that over the next decade it will increase to 100 Gb/s.  What I'm wondering is, dose that mean there will be new HARDWARE that will be faster, or that they will be working on the software.  Basically I want to know if the computers that have it now will be able to support the faster speeds as time goes on.  (I know it will require a fiber connection, but they have stated that fiber connections will be compatable with current thunderbolt ports).

I doubt it very much. Hardware manufacturers tend to think backward compatibility and not forward compatibility

cheers ...
