Help Requested: Processor Power

Thread Starter

I am about to purchase three Laptops for my daughters aged 11 and 12.  I am not much of a techie and was hoping to get some good advice here before making the purchase.

First off here is some criteria:

17 inch screen

Will be used for Office 2010 Student edition for school work, web browsing and gaming.

The gaming is all the high end games, SIMS, World of Warcraft etc.  These laptops will need to last 6 years minimum or until they graduate (findgers crossed)

One question:  Is the i7 processor that much better than the i5?  Would definitley go with the i7 if it makes that much of a difference.

Budget is $3500 at the very top.   Including a 12% tax here in Canada.   So roughly $3200 to spend.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

i7 IS a much better CPU than the i5.

Just some quick help: SIMS, World of Warcraft are not considered "high end" gaming. Both of those games are 5-6 years old and can run on most notebooks today.

If you want a strong gaming notebook experience, Check out the Alienware m17x. They have a strong reputation for high quality gaming notebooks. You don't need to spend $3500 either.
