Acer Aspire 5920 Power Supply

I have had to replace the cord at least 5 times, same with my husband's 5315-2077. We have tried ones from a computer store, ebay and amazon, they either burn out in 6 months, or this recent one which it's been less than a week and it's already not working. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to get a cord that will actually last?

The power cord alone, or the whole adaptor unit? Have you tried different power outlets in your home?

It's not the outlets, it is the cord.

The power supply comes in 2 sections. The part that plugs into the computer and into the box, and the part that plugs into the outlet with the box attached.  It is the section that connects to the computer, it's been the plug section itself that connects to the computer that always seems to have the issue.

Sounded like either power jack area of the notebook is causing the problem, or the adapter itself is of poor quality. I would open up the notebook and visually check the power jack area and at the same time trying to get an OEM adapter for the notebook, staying away from the universal types or the "compatible" type

How would I know if it's the jack inside the laptop?  Would I visually be able to tell?  My only issue is it's like 40-50 for a new cord and last time I looked acer didn't even sell them anymore.

Visually checking the jack after you expose the area - should be able to tell if any burnt mark etc ... And Amazon is selling the adapter for around 10 bucks plus shipping

I think it might be at least partially the the port in the computer, would it be easy to buy the part and fix myself? If so I might do that.

It is not easy, but it is not hard either. The replacement part is cheap and readily available. If you are lucky, then it is just a screw in type, if not, some soldering might be required. Just need some patience
