Switch off laptop battery charging

I know there are laptops that allow you to switch off battery charging and some even allow you to determine at what charge level the battery will begin charging again.  I would like to be able to do this on my HP DV6 laptop.  The battery charges to 100% then drops to 99% and on and on the cycle goes while the battery is in the laptop.  This, of course degrades battery life hence some of the newer laptops have the ability to switch the charging on and off manually.  I know I can just take the battery out but it would so much easier to leave it in and just switch charging off.  My laptop runs very cool so the heat would not be an issue either in battery degredation.  Is there any way to turn off charging on a laptop?  I tried disabling the Microsoft AC Adapter and Compliant Control Method Battery and this did not do it.  Is there any other way to do this?

Some notebooks models come with a manufacturer's "smart battery" feature (Vista and Windows 7) that allows the battery to stop taking charge after a certain percentage. Check your power setting options and see if you have it.

Other than that I am not aware of any 3rd party software that can do it at the moment

cheers ...

Thanks!  I'll look and see but I don't think I have that option.
