District 9 subtitles

A friend copied a DVD, now I have it all in VTS files. Without burning it back to DVD, how can i get the subtitles to show up?

(eg, District 9 - alien conversations). I tried to rip it to .avi but the subtitles still didnt show up

Are you running windows or some version of linux?

VLC will probably play it. If not, you could try mounting it with daemon tools.
