Please help me find my perfect laptop

This will be my only machine.

My main usage will be development(visual studio, virtualbox, sql server), skype video, 1080p movie watching, browsing. I don't play 3d games.

I plan to run it 24x7. 

Max weight 3.5lb. Core i5 or similar performance. Has to be silent or at least very quiet. I'm very sensitive to noise. Budget $1000 or less.

For 24x7 usage would it be better to go for a small platform desktop?

I would prefer laptop but if I can't find one that suit me I would go for small desktop

I haven't experienced any notebooks that survived a year with 24/7 drill smile.gif

Running 24/7 is hard to do. I would never attempt it but mine in college ran 24/7 and it lasted just over a year. Had to replace the motherboard and GPU because of heat. That was the price I paid for running SETI@home with it 24/7.

I ran my old laptop 24x7, except the battery everything else works fine. I think its because I left it inside the laptop all the time. I should have remove it.
