I need a hard drive recommendation for my Inspiron 1525

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit.  Right now, my laptop has a garbage HDD (something like 100 GB or 160 GB) and it's too small.  I'm trying to buy a new HDD but I'm not sure how to tell if it will be compatible with my computer, so I was hoping I could get some help here.

These are the HDDs I'm looking at.  I'd like to know if they will work with my laptop and which one is best.

Any hard drive that says "2.5 Inch" will fit inside your computer.

Have you thought about going SSD?

But aren't there different thicknesses? And the only reason I don't want an SSD is the price. the technology is still too expensive. A 160 GB SSD is like $300. I'll wait until prices drop a bunch. I'm also thinking about getting a new laptop anyway so I'd rather not spend a lot of money on something I won't have much longer

The 7200 rpm models are a little thicker than the 5400 but for the most part I don't think you'll have a problem with the drives listed. You can always check. Find your model number before you purchase.

Hi. Laptop drives are 2.5" and 9.5mm thick. I have upgraded my two machines to both the Seagate Momentus, and the Western Digital Black Scorpion. Both are 7200rpm and have pretty well the same data transfer rate - fast. Seeing as how your upgrading, dont mess with 5400rpm - too slow. The extra performance of the 7200rpm drives is noticeable. Momentus is slightly quieter than the Scorpion.

Both my lappies are older Dells (9400 and M1710), and I run with the "performance" setting enabled in the BIOS.
