Choice Between Toshiba E305 or Samsung QX411

Hi everyone,

 

it's my first post on this forum and I have a question for you. I'm looking at buying a new notebook for school and at the moment I own a Dell inspiron 15 which after a year is already looking like it's 4 years old.

 

The thing is I do use my computer all day , like about 5-6hours a day so I pretty hard on the battery and I also travel a lot with it. I was first looking at 13 inch computer but most lacks a optical drive which I really need and the only model I was interested in is not available here in Canada.

 

So I'm looking at spending no more than a 1000$ CAD or about 899 US for a notebook, with a 14" screen, preferably a metal casing or at least something that is not all plastic like my Dell, running either the new I5 or I3, but probably I would aim for the I5.

 

The Best reviewed laptop I could find for this price at the moment seems to be either the Samsung QX411 (best buy exclusive) and the Toshiba E305.

 

Any comments or advice on which I should buy ?

I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. Both of these vendors are really making a push to QUALITY high performance notebooks. Both of these notebooks will have around the same power, (i5 CPUs) and both have 14 inch screens.

THe only true spec I can see that sets each one apart is the Toshiba comes with a 2 year warranty (which is awesome) where as the Samsung only has a 1 year warranty (probably through Best Buy).

I am a huge fan of 2-3 year warranties. Best Buy would probably make you pay up the ass to upgrade to 2 or 3 years.

well I just checked and it seems the Toshiba is also a Bestbuy exclusive meaning it come only with the same one yeat warranty as the sammsung... Although am I right to think that Toshiba have a far better experience in laptop building and in quality product than Samsung ?

And I definitely wouldn’t put one brand over the other in terms of build quality. Both, like I said have come a long way. Toshiba has their hard drive drop technology, which definitely suggest they have mastered durability in a notebook. And you can see the streamlining of this technology in their consumer notebooks.

Samsung on the other hand has the advantage of being an Apple OEM. They make a lot of the components for Mac Books and Mac Book Airs. We are starting to see a lot of Samsung models to mirror this build. So you will be finding top quality products in all Samsung notebooks.

I really don’t think you can choose poorly here. Either way you go you’re going to have a good experience.
