MSI Wind U135DX poor performance

Hi all,
I've just bought the above netbook but am experiencing very poor performance from it. The system seems to hang when ever i am doing something, e.g opening a folder or internet browser.

I have ordered an extra 1gb of ram but don't think it will improve things greatly.

I've seen that on earlier models there was a performance increase available via the bios where the clock speed could be increased by set percentages overclocking the netbook to 2ghz.

The only option on this netbooks bios under system performance is the option to change from LV1, LV2 (default), LV3, LV4 and LV5.

Is this the same thing and is it safe to increase to LV4 or LV5?

Otherwise do you guys know what i can do to speed up the netbook as it really should be this laggy.

Thanks in advance

Nothing you can do much with a netbook. I do recommend staying away from trying to overclock CPU and/or GPU on these devices - a lobotomy effect that won't last long and would cause more harm than anything.

I would however strongly recommend that you review your startup processes and services and disable what you don't need, disabling the stock antivirus apps and replacing it with Microsoft Security Essentials. Update (automatically) to the latest of Windows 7 and MSI device drivers would also help.

The above steps would surely give you a better experience with using the netbook in question.

I definitely would NOT overclock a netbook. They have insufficient cooling systems as it is.

Cheers for your help guys, will stay well away from increasing the performance by overclocking.

The netbook was quite sluggish from the start, maybe the extra 1gb of ram will make all the difference.

Have not got much running at all to review or change, am using the native firewall, AVG anti-virus and Malware Bytes.

Have disabled any updates for the time being to see if it stops the lag but no joy.

Would i see any benefit by putting a 7200rpm drive in it?

Faster drive and max ram always help. I am not so keen about AVG and Malware together . Give MSE a shot, disabling the other 2 and see, you can always turn them back on. I would not disable updates though

SSD would do wonders.

I think i will give MSE a go and get rid of both Avg and Malware...who know this could be part of the problem...thanks all for your advice smile.gif
